Trip Summary

Discover a vast array of Ugandan wildlife on this trip. You will visit Queen Elizabeth National Park for a spectacular wildlife game viewing and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest that is home to over 450 endangered mountain gorillas.

Queen Elizabeth National Park’s diverse Eco-system of grassy plains, tropical forest, rivers, swamps, lakes and volcanic craters is home to an incredible abundance of wildlife. Game drives in this park provides excellent                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             opportunities to see lion, leopard, giant forest hog, cape buffalo, elephants, de fassa waterbuck, Uganda Kob, Topi and bush buck among others.

The park is recorded to have more than 1000 elephants.

Day 1: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Meet our guide in the morning and Drive west, with a stopover at the Equator in Masaka for photos. You will pass through the volcanic formations of the Western Rift Valley towards Queen Elizabeth National Park, the descent revealing a stunning panorama of Lakes George and Edward amidst game-filled plains. This is a 7 – 8 hours’ drive.

In the evening, proceed for a 2-hour boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel and into Lake Edward. The cruise passes through possibly the highest hippo concentration in Africa as well as many mammals may be seen drinking at the water’s edge such as Elephants, Buffaloes among others. You will also witness colorful and abundant birdlife.

  • Return to Mweya Safari Lodge that is beautifully situated on a bluff overlooking the Kazinga Channel and Lake Edward for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Game drives in the park

You will go for two game drives through Queen Elizabeth National Parks’ diverse eco-system of grassy plains, tropical forest, rivers, swamps, lakes and volcanic craters that is a home to an incredible abundance of wildlife.

You will see animals such as lions, leopards, giant forest hogs, cape buffaloes, elephants, defassa waterbucks, Uganda Kobs, Topis and bush bucks among others.

  • Dinner and Overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge

Day 3: Chimpanzee Tracking and Transfer to Bwindi Forest

After breakfast, depart for Maramagambo Forest. Visitors can climb through tropical forest and catch a glimpse of a variety of primates, including chimpanzee.

Visit the Bat Caves and the ‘Blue Lake’. Drive through the ‘Switzerland of Africa’, Kigezi Highlands with its terraced hillside and winding roads to Bwindi for Dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi

Early morning, enter into the Gorilla sanctuary, the spectacular Bwindi Impenetrable rainforest after breakfast and briefing. Get challenged by the dramatic steeply and densely forested landscape as you trek to get to the Gorilla nests.

During the search for the most endangered apes, there are opportunities of coming across the rare golden monkeys, buffalo, elephants, black-fronted duiker, bushbuck, leopard, and giant forest hog among others.

The time taken to find the shy and peaceful gorillas and the terrain vary according to the movements of these marvelous primates as well as the sector you tracked.

  • Dinner and overnight at Buhoma Homestead but always depends on the sector you wish to track.

Day 5: Return to Kampala

After the rare, moving and exciting adventure of observing the mountain gorillas the previous, leisurely drive back to Kampala with memories of these endangered primates. You will have a stopover in Mbarara for Lunch.
